CENTRAL CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Bits & Pieces from THE CONNECTOR

(the church newsletter)

From the Pastor.....
If you are over 60, you remember handwritten letters.
If you are between 40 and 60, you rely on email.
If you are under 40, you prefer instant messaging,
If you are under 30, you communicate via Facebook or MySpace.
And if you are really on the cutting edge, you Twitter.

Each and all are tools for more effective communication. Each and all a tool of time and
technology to help us not just communicate, but communicate efficiently – in order to save
us time.

To save us time for what? To have more quality time. Why? So we can enjoy more time?
Funny thing. With more and more time saving technologies, why is it that it seems we have
less quality time to enjoy more time?

Even more astounding, time is the same for rich and poor alike. We all have time. The
same time. We all have been allotted time for daily, earthly pursuits. God provides us time
for life eternal.

Maybe, when it gets down to it, which is the time that determines your time?
Schools out. Summer is here? Soon it will be fall and then winter. Time is a precious
commodity. Don’t waste time. Utilize time according to God’s purposes and ways.

Blessings,
L. Brent Cantrell

Small World Preschool Report

Our preschool year is quickly coming to an end.  It blew by fast and is full of great memories with our many events, trainings and activities.  We had almost full enrollment with 42 children attending our program.  This is definitely something to celebrate!

Small World is currently working to renew and increase our rating of Iowa’s Quality Rating System (QRS).  This is designed to help us be at our best and provide the highest quality early childhood education.  We’re reaching
for the stars!

We have received much positive feedback from our parent survey’s this year.  Here are just a couple of the many wonderful comments:  “I feel my child is well prepared for Kindergarten!  Thanks for a great 2 years!” & “I feel you guys do a wonderful job at Small World.  I do not ever worry about my children when they are there.  You provide a wonderful
and safe environment to learn in. Thanks for all you’ve done!!”

Events:

We’ve held various fund-raising events this year including:

    Ice Cream Social/raffle

    Art Show

    Winter Concert/DVD sales

Sale of Younkers Community Day booklets

    Collection of Hy-Vee receipts

These events helped us raise money to buy needed
supplies/equipment for our school.

Part of our success is due to the generous help of the church and its members, especially those who made cookies, bars, muffins, collected Hy-Vee receipts etc.

We are so thankful to all of you who have contributed!

Next year we plan on continuing with most of these events/fund-raisers.  Hy-Vee receipt collecting will begin again before too long - the more we collect the more $$we make, so please help us with this easy fund-raiser.            Every little bit helps!

We look forward to another great year next year!  Currently the Pre-K room has 11 of 22 students enrolled and the 3-4 year old room has 13 of 16 enrolled.  Please help spread the word that now is the time to sign your 3, 4, & 5 year olds up for preschool at Small World!

We are fortunate to have such a wonderful place to have our children come and grow and learn.  We truly appreciate all the help from the church, its staff and members, without you...we wouldn’t be here; you make a difference in these children’s lives.  I personally thank you for that!

NEWS FLASH -- The Bazaar is coming!

Yes, there will be our Bazaar the first Saturday in October--October 3rd!  Wendy Brudevold and Linda Lambert are co-chairing it, and Linda Sharp is looking after the facility arrangements.

            We
have heard that activities are going on in the woodshop, in the craft groups, in the kitchens and in the living rooms. Continue looking this summer for ways that you can contribute to the items we will be selling. Mike, how is the candy coming? Save those books and magazines that are good sellers for the book room.

Stay tuned for more information and needs.
