 Pentecost Offering 2009

Each year the New Church Movement is
supported primarily by funds raised by the
annual Pentecost Offering. This special-day
offering provides support for new church
planter training, coaching, special project grants and additional services to support the New Church Ministry of the Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ). And, importantly, half of
the money collected through the Pentecost
Offering remains in YOUR REGION (Upper
Midwest Region for Central) to benefit new
churches.

While Pentecost special offering will be received in most congregations on Sunday May 24 and Sunday, May 31, donations can be made throughout the year.

Sunday Morning Cafe Central

We will begin 9:00 am summer worship on Sunday, May 24 (Memorial Day Sunday). In keeping with the goal of providing extravagant hospitality, we will return to offering fellowship time after worship. Linda Jacobson has graciously agreed to continue seeing that doughnuts are  available in the library. We would also like to have  a host/hostess to be by the table to greet people.  That person(s) would be asked to provide juice for the morning and see that the area is cleaned up afterwards, as well as welcome people to the Fellowship Time.

Make it a Sunday practice of enjoying a few minutes of fellowship, tasty treats and fostering Christian community as the family of faith at Central.

You may also sign up to host the Hospitality Hour by signing the sheet posted on the church office window.

Recognizing Graduates -
    Sunday, June 7

Central would like to recognize all our High School and College graduates during worship on Sunday, June 7.  Please contact the church office with the  name of the graduate, the school from which he or she will graduate, degree, special honors/achievements and plans after graduation.  We will share this information in upcoming issues of The Connector as well as during worship on June 7.

RELAY FOR LIFE
June 19-20
Hawkeye Community College

The annual Black Hawk County Relay for Life begins Friday June 19 at Hawkeye Community College.  We would like to have all Cancer Survivors of Central as well as others join us for this event.  The RELAY opens at 5:00 and the Opening Ceremony is set for 6:00 pm. This will include the Survivor Lap and the Survivor reception immediately after. The Luminaria Ceremony will be at 9:00 pm.

On Saturday, a continental breakfast begins at 5:30 am with Closing Ceremony at 7:30 am.

Central has been a strong supporter of this cancer fund-raising drive. Sometimes I think that we don't have a family that hasn't been touched by this disease. Agnes Brody has organized our participation in the past and we want to continue that for her.

We will be offering Luminary sacks to be decorated and funded with at least a $10.00 donation per bag. The sacks will be available in the Narthex the next two Sundays. Please take as many sacks for which you would like to make contributions. Decorate the sacks in whatever manner you feel created to do--stickers, pictures, cut-away designs, paper flowers, special message and on and on.  Be sure to include on the sack the name of the person you are honoring. You can designate: In Honor of (Survivor), In Memory of  (deceased), or In Support of (currently battling).

When you take sacks, please sign on the clipboard your name and the number of sacks that you are taking. Decorate them and return them to the office by Wednesday, June 17 along with your check to the American Cancer Society. We will deliver them to the RELAY.

I intend to have one of my sacks lift up all those at Central Christian who have dealt with cancer. I have a friend deceased and one still battling the disease that are not members of Central that I want to remember.

If you don't want to decorate a sack, you can just leave a check to the American Cancer Society in the office.

So be creative--and supportive. If there is someone who would like to organize a Central team to participate in the Relay's activities on the 19th and 20th, please let the office know.

For more information, contact the Church Office or Sharon Gatewood.

ANNUAL BAZAAR

It's a tradition that has occured each fall
at Centrla Christian Church decade after decade.  We are famous in the Cedar
Valley for our annual bazaar.  Others try
to copy that we do; but none have been
able to duplicate the joy and fellowship
and festivities.

Why does our BAZAAR keep happening year after year and with such success? Because
it is about loving God (first), others (next)
and then finally addressing our needs and mission (last).

This is the recipe of life and faith Jesus
instructed us to abide by in Luke 10:25-27.

We make this our main thing every year.
That is why we believe our BAZAAR is not
just fun, but a blessing and a spiritual adventure!!

Come experience this unique and fun
day at Central Christian Church.  Please join us the first Saturday of October for our annual Bazaar.
